the populace of this country shirks its civic responsibili琀椀es and refuses to par琀椀cipate in crucial decisions, a small group of

people will choose who will hold elected o昀케ce. We must protect our rights and par琀椀cipate in poli琀椀cs as ci琀椀zens. Wdue east

sociologist, journalist, and newspaper editor, amongst other things. Moreover, she westas of African descent. Wells felt driven

to alter the way she treated African Americans. She wished for the general populace to comprehend her view that

equality had failed.

Due westells caused a piece of the Memphis newspaper The Free Speech and Headlight in 1889. The treatment of African
